The Empire Writes Back

After a few months, my 7th charity: water campaign has finally come to a close, raising over $1,800 for rural villages and communities without access to clean drinking water. I wanted to thank everyone who donated, especially the T Y Lee Family Foundation who donated $1,000 in a truly awesome show of support. Seriously, thank you all so much, I cannot express how much this means to me and how much good this will help do.

As promised, I will write and post a short story or novella containing the names of everyone who donated to the campaign. I have a few ideas written down, and a first paragraph in the works, but I think I unfortunately may have to put the story on hold until I’m done applying to colleges in order to give both of those the time and respect they deserve. I hope you read the story when it comes out!

Over time, the work charity: water has done builds up, taking small steps at each time to address a global water crisis. I can look back at the history of my campaigns and think to myself about how much of an impact they have had, as well as think about the people who made it all possible. This has been such a big part of my life, and I sometimes feel like I don’t give it the respect and time it deserves. I’ve never thought about my role as me doing work – all I’m doing is raising awareness, encouraging others to take a second to think about what life could be like without water and letting them know how they can help. For all $17,000 raised over 7 campaigns, it has been amazing to talk with people at charity: water about the impact we all are making and how we can continue to work for those cleaner futures.

Once again, thank you. I hope you’ll support me in my next campaign.
