The Westing Game

Does anyone actually know what they’re doing? Or are people like me, who have no idea what’s going on all the time?

So I just directed my third tournament, and it went okay! Probably better. Not my place to say. But it did go well. Livingston High School’s Quiz Bowl team hosted the third Academic Competition Extravaganza last week, and it was so well run I got to drive home and talk to my mother during the lunch break. In the past, I’ve seen tournaments where things have gone wrong, and I’m naturally a decently anxious person, so I was terrified for almost the whole time that something bad was going to happen, but basically nothing did? Is that normal?

If I honestly had to say, the biggest issue was me buying too much butter two days before. Each tournament, we offer everyone coming a free, high quality bagel, with some cream cheese and butter, so I was in charge of getting the butter, knives, and plates that we would use for that morning setup. The school never bothered to compensate me for that purchase, but who cares, I got the money back anyway.

I remember the last time I ran a tournament, I kept sending the question packets to nobody because I was supposed to paste the list of staffer emails into the BCC section of a thread and kept forgetting to do that, so it ended up being like 40 messages when it should have been 22. No longer! With the rise of copy + paste technology and thinking before I act, I can finally not embarrass myself. Also, we didn’t overorder pizza this time so that’s great as well. Never forget:

Anyway, we’re hosting another tournament next year in March. Livingston March Madness is going to be awesome, so stay tuned for that. Not much else to say! Tournament went great, no notes.
